Our brains are wired to protect us. When something is perceived as painful, the brain will do anything to keep us from it. This can be particularly distressing when it comes to writing because we are often passionate about the project—we want to do it, we may even enjoy it once we get going—but getting started can feel as impossible as making our hand touch a hot stove.
In this workshop, we’ll explore why it can feel so difficult to start writing. Combining writing studies research with neuroscience, this workshop will break down what’s going on in our writing brains when we struggle with such obstacles and what we can do to overcome them. Attendees will come away with concrete, science-backed strategies they can use to make it easier to get started—and keep going.
